Hi I have a friend who is as thick as 2 planks and she has screwed up her
outlook express email and newsgroup settings. Because I have all the
relevant information (username and passwords etc but different ISP) could I
set up her newsgroups and email on my computer then go to
TOOLS/ACCOUNTS/EXPORT on my computer, save the files to a pen drive then use
TOOLS/ACCOUNTS/IMPORT and transfer the settings to her computer? Or would it
not work because I use a different ISP? I know I can use her information to
receive her email but not send as her as I am not logged on to her ISP. If I
Thanks Tricia

Why don't you just write down all the relevant information:
USERNAME
PASSWORD
SMTP address for email
POP address for email
Phone number - if dial up internet access

Then go to her PC and delete any account information in OE and enter this
information into a 'new' account.

The answer to your question is "yes". I suspect that the setting will not
work on your computer because you use a different ISP but the settings will
work on hers.

Why? I'm bored so I will go into this. Many ISP's will not allow outgoing
email to be transferred through their servers to an alien mail server. If
the originator of this email had sent 10,000 emails (obviously spam) the
"originator mail server" would be her mail server and her server would be
blacklisted. Thus, ISP's say "the only outgoing email we will send is from
our customers(on our servers) and they will abide by our rules".

This has become a standard in an effort to squalsh spam and I applaude them
and the standards that are in place.

I went a little too far didn't I?

Oh Well,

Dave H.
