"The specified server was found but there was no response from the server."

Hi all,

I'm having trouble connecting to a sendmail SMTP server with both
Outlook 2002 and 2003. 2000 is fine.
The error is
"The specified server was found but there was no response from the
server." (etc.)

Network connectivity to the server is Ok - I can telnet to port 25 and
issue commands. POP3 from the same server with the same authentication
data works.
Mozilla Mail also works fine, so it's down to Outlook.

I did a tcpdump on the server side to find that the SMTP server sends
its greeting and immediately receives a QUIT. SSL is disabled in the
settings.

I've seen this message mentioned in the google archives quite a few
times but never with a real solution besides "check your settings".

Does anybody have any other idea?

Is SSL disabled on the client (Outlook), the server, or both? If the
server does not support SSL but Outlook has SSL checked, you would get
these symptoms.
