Some email servers insist that you enter your username with no spaces
and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some insist that you follow it with the
part of your email address starting with @, and some insist that you
don't. Many insist that you use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in
the correct places in your password. Many give unclear error messages
about what the problems are if you don't follow these rules.

I'm running the new avg free edition, either way though, same issue when I

windows mail. It starts with " Your Imap server wishes to alert you to the
following invalid credentials (failure)". You click the ok on that and up
pops the new message "The server has rejected your login. Please verify that
the user name and password is correct". So then you re enter the credentials
and the fun starts all over again and over again and over again and over

mail and restart it at which point it works fine, downloads my mail just
fine, deletes it, everything...... until I'm on it too long and the fun
starts again.

If you're repeatedly prompted for your username and password, or if you're getting an 'invalid credentials' or 'web login required' error, we suggest that you verify the following settings in your mail client:

* Re-enter your password to ensure that it's correct. Keep in mind that passwords are case-sensitive.
* Make sure your mail client isn't set to check for new mail too often. If your mail client checks for new messages more than once every 10 minutes, your client might repeatedly request your username and password.

If the issue persists:

* Try clearing the CAPTCHA.
* If you're a Google Apps user, visit https://www.google.com/a/yourdomain.com/UnlockCaptcha in order to clear the CAPTCHA. Be sure to replace 'yourdomain.com' with your actual domain name. If you're a transitioned Google Apps account user, you should use this link to clear your CAPTCHA.

In the long run, the only way you

Another option is to upgrade to

I have the same problem. It
is really frustrated. I am
considering using
Thunderbird now myself. I
have always used Microsoft
Outlook Express in the

this problem until I got
Windows Vista.

If you are sure you are
using the correct username
and password,
one possible cause for that
error is account
corruption. One thing
you might try as a possible
quick fix is to delete that
corrupted
account, restart Windows
Mail, then recreate that
mail account.
If that doesn't fix it,
more drastic measures will
have to be taken.

Which antivirus are you
running?
As a minimum, email
scanning in the antivirus
must be turned off,
although that may not be
sufficient to eliminate all
bad effects.
In a worst case scenario,
your antivirus may need to
be uninstalled.

If turning off the email
scanning function does not
resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to
Windows Live Mail, because
it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from
overly aggressive antivirus
programs.

Email scanning in any
antivirus must be disabled,
for reasons
explained here:

Also note that I do not
see any "speculative

were any,
they are not showing
here so your comments
are especially useless.

Also, use the Windows
Live Mail newsgroup; you
cannot expect anything
useful
about Windows Live Mail
in a newsgroup that is
not for Windows Live

If your problem is with
Windows Live Mail,
you will get more help
by posting that issue
in the WLM newsgroup:

or via your news

Incidentally,

accept a "me too" type

so submit your own
