The image is too large (too many bytes)

I am unable to open these 1 MB JPG files in MS Photo
Editor. I receive the following error: "The image is too
large (too many bytes)". I am using Windows XP (not sure
if that makes a difference or not), and I'm using Photo
Editor version 3.0.2.3. I've never encountered this
problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I have no info on MS PhotoEditor but I can tell you
that some programs have a limit on the dimensions
of an image file. If you check the PhotoEditor help
files it may tell you the maximum image dimensions.

It may be worth a try to resize your image to a smaller
size.

There's a free PowerToy at the following link that
makes resizing easy:

Go to the following link and download and
install: ImageResizer.exe

http://tinyurl.com/36n

Then you can open any folder that contains
images and you will have an option to resize.
Just right click the selected image files and
choose Resize Pictures from the menu. You
can select one image or a whole group.

The program will place the resized copies in
the folder with your originals.
(Tip: *Never* overwrite your originals)

That's a definite possibility, but I was thinking the
pixel dimensions could be the problem. Either way,
resizing the image should make an improvement.

Thanks John. In my example that I am using. When I right click and choose properties: Size 1.35 MB (1,426,122bytes)
When I open it in Microsoft Photo Editor click properties: Bytes 9437184
Width 2048
Height 1536
Thanks for the link to the article.

Odd I regularly view 12MB pictures on my PC. One is about 7000 pixels wide.
One possibility is that they are highly compressed files and when unpacked
they could easily become 20 or 30 times larger within the program.
Other than that they might just be corrupt. Have you tried opening them in
something else, such as Paint?
