The Case of the Disappearing Macro Tool Bars

L

Lee Jeffery

HI,

I'm using Excel 97 on WINNT.

I use a number of toolbars linked to macros to perform a series o
functions I have automated. I have installed similar tool bars for man
of my colleagues.

For reasons unknown, my tool bars regularly disappear and I have t
re-make them.

Does anybody know why this happens and, more importantly, is there an
way to prevent this or store them somewhere for a quick re-install?

TIA.

I have used he same setup as yourself for some years without problem
Perhaps you have a toolbar thief around.

Custom toolbars are stored in files with a *.xlb suffix. Mine is i
C:\WINNT folder in a file like MYUSERNAME8.xlb. I have successfull
transported this home and used from in my XLSTART folder for Exce
2000. I suppose it just need to be somewhere that Excel searches o

Manual customizations to Menus and Toolbars are saved in a file named *.XLB

Excel 97 in C:\Windows and named username.XLB

Perhaps this file is going astray? If on a server, this can happen.

Also if on a server, you may not have permissions to save. See your IT person
or Administrator.

Search for *.xlb and see what you come up with. When you get your
customization done, make a backup copy of the *.xlb file.

You may find more than one. Make a Toolbar or Menu change and see which *.XLB
file updates.

One more fact about *.xlb files. If they become too large, they
have been known to cause problems with Excel.
