Template from a Template ?!?

I've read that you can create a template (say template1) based off of another template (template2) and it will adhear to changes made off the original (template2).

I can't seem to get this to work. Lets say that I want global header on all the pages (controlled by template2) but on only some of those select pages I want a footer (controlled my template1)

If I change template2 the changes affect all pages linked to it along with template1. This change to template1 affects all the pages that we attached to it

Hopefully this isn't to confusing

different things require different templates (if I'm understanding you
right).
you'd just copy the original template, modify it and save it as a new
file/different name.

You can apply different Dynamic Web Templates to different pages (FP2003)
See http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HA010775891033&CTT=98

Or if using and earlier versions of FP, look at Include pages or shared borders

Here's the snippet from the book FP2003 Inside and Out

"One dynamic web template can attach another. In this arrangement, changing the first template updates the one that attaches it, and this in turn updates any pages that use the second template

That sounds better then my explanation

Anyways when I try to do it the option isn't highlighted
