We're running win2000 terminal server. If we connect to
this box and then minimize our session for a few minutes,
we get a black screen or a message saying our connecitn
has been lost. we can reconnect fine everytime...

When you minimize the terminal services client, the server stops
sending graphics data. As a result, the bandwidth between server and
client can easily drop to 0.

Idle timeout on the terminal server or in proxies and firewalls
between client and server can cause the connection to drop.

I have the "overide user" settings checked in the term
server configuration and set to:

end a disconnected session after 30 minutes & to disconect
the active and idle sessions set to 1 day. Also we are
using a dlink 604 router on thier end which doesn't have
any settings regarding idle connections. On our end we're
running a pix 506 that isn't configured to drop idle
connections either. One other quiestion\note...while
minimized they have an outlook client open on our exchange
2000 server so wouldn't the outlook app be sending some
packets on occasion?

thanks for all your help...

No, because your exchange server communicates with the outlook client on the Terminal Server, not with the computer running the Remote Desktop Client. Only RDP traffic (keyboard/mouse clicks, screen changes, file copy, print & audio are transmitted via RDP, so when your client is minimized RDP traffic can be minimal or none

so does no rdp traffic mean my connection should be
dropped? I have the term server config sessions set to 1
day without activity before dropping the connection...the
default setting of never didn't seem to work. What else
can i try? would just turning on a screen saver "fix" the
problem?
