Taskbar gone due to Blaster patch

I am running Win XP Pro and caught the Blaster virus. I
downloaded the fix from Microsoft and installed it, but
to my dismay my taskbar and desktop icons are now gone.
Every time I boot my computer it runs fine until it
brings up my desktop. The taskbar and desktop icons are
gone and the only way I can open programs is by pressing
ctrl+alt+del and opening them through the task manager.
I updated my AVG anti-virus software and ran a test -
Nothing. I downloaded the symantic program - Nothing. I
even ran the web-based virus scanner on grisoft.com -
Nothing. I got all the new updates off of Microsoft's
web page - Nothing. Has anyone else had this happen
after they installed the patch?

I think I figured it out. For some reason I have to
explorer.exe programs running when I look at my processes
in the task manager. When I delete the larger of the
two, my taskbar pops back up. I think that the larger
explorer.exe is a virus designed to hide the taskbar.
