Take Ownership and User Quotas

P

Paul

Question:
How do I adminitratively use "Take Ownership" for
individual users to give them ownership of their files
back for the purposes of enabling User Quotas?

Details:
Due to a mistake, a restored set of user folders ended up
being owned by the administrator account. Permissions
were restored to the user folders and files, but ownership
can not be transferred to anyone other than domain admin
accounts.

The problem is that User Quotas now does not take those
files into account, only newly created files.

I could ask each user to do it for themselves, but it
isn't very likely that they'll do it, for obvious
reasons :)

Your help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Paul.

I'm not aware of a way to "assign ownership" of files, but hopefully the
users would think enough of their own file/s to want to do it ;)

Hi Paul,

you are able to assign the ownership using WS2k3, or use the tool subinacl:
288292 Managing File and Folder Permissions Through the Command Line Utility
