system (specifically rdbss.sys) eating cpu-cycles

Hi,
Since long I have this strange problem on my laptop (specs below):
About every ten minutes the system process puts a heavy load on my cpu: >70%
for about a minute. It is very regular and has a distinghuishable shape in
the taks manager (see picture posted at
http://www.opm.ctw.utwente.nl/staff/G.M._Bonnema/diverse/taskman.png).
With process explorer, I found out that inside the system process rdbss.sys
takes the largest part (>60%). There is also some network traffic associated
with these peaks.

The system is a pentium M 1.7GHz, 1GB RAM, Paradigit "R15B" motherboard with
Intel 82855PM chipset.
Windows XP Pro, SP2, fully up to date, automatic updates.

Does anyone have a clue?

Greetz,
MaBo
