svchost taking all available resources

Dennis

I have several instances of svchost.exe running at the
same time. I notice this while on the Internet. Is this
normal?

ALSO, I have frequent occurances where svchost.exe NETWORK
SERVICE takes 100% of the CPU time, resulting in all
processes being held up until it finishes what ever it is
doing.

How can I remedy this?

Yes it is normal to have multiple svchost running. But
what is not normal if one is eating all your cpu. This
typically indicates a virus/spyware.
Run an uptodate virus scan,
download and run adaware & spybot & hijack this.
Also you may want to run an online virus scan to be even
more sure(symantec.com).
