I am having a problem where svchost.exe is using 65-75%
of the cpu time and System is using the rest. System Idle
Process is always at 00%. This is with no applications
open just after reboot. Help!

Hello,

I know that there can be many instances of svchost.exe
running at once (I have four), and that's for the Web and
Network, but I also know that there is a svchost.exe that
is a virus. The virus itself mimics the legitmate
svchost.exe to fool you while messing up your computer.
I would run an antivirus program to see if a virus
invaded your computer and used up your resources.

Thanks Ty,

This is my niece's computer and she has had
83 malware/data miners that Ad-Aware found.
Who know what else this computer has. It does
have Norton AntiVirus 2002 but she has not kept
up on the updates. Oh well - Thanks again

Hi,

Take a look at my message "Unanswered Question by Many".

Are you exerpiencing any of these same symptoms.

SVHOST running at 99 percent is another symptom I am seeing, however forgot
to mention it in that post. Reading your post reminded me of it.

Norton actually had a problem that caused this problem when SafeCast
(www.macrovision.com) licensing software was used. Many commercial products
use SafeCast. The one you are most likely to encounter was the 2003 version
of TurboTax.

To test disconnect from the network, disable Norton such that it does not
start on startup, reboot.
See if the problem is gone. Run for a while.

For confirmation,
restart Norton.
Now watching the process list with task manager, start using the computer
watch to see which product, in combination with Norton is causing the
problem.

Contact the vendors of the products.
