Support for Frontpage vs Frontpage authoring?

J

JM

I have signed up for a web hosting account on Registerfly. My account
specifies that Frontpage is not supported, but Frontpage "authoring" can be
enabled. What is the difference between the support of Frontpage vs
Frontpage authoring?

Thank you,

jm

There is no difference. What you are reading simply means your website has
not been configured to use FrontPage until you ask the hosting service
provider to configure your website to enable you to publish to your website
using FrontPage.

I would say that the statement "FrontPage is not supported" means just that.
Your web host will not support you with any problems that you are having
with the FrontPage application that resides on your computer. They do
however support FrontPage extensions......the part that resides on their
server that allows you to publish FrontPage webs using http and other server
side applications that are a part of the FrontPage Extensions.

It is confusing to those who are starting out (I remember being confused too
at first) when you hear FrontPage and FrontPage Extensions. They are not the
same but they both have to be present in order to make many of the features
work that are a part of FrontPage.

I hope I didn't confuse you more.

Jeff: I believe you are right. But, in any case, JM should actually *ask*
his host what they mean.

If the have a 30 day money back program, get your money back and go here:
www.123ehost.com

Or any other host that supports FP extensions.

Well, if they don't "support" FrontPage that's why news groups such as this one exist.
Come to think of it, my hosting company doesn't support FrontPage either.

I did not see any indication where they do not support "FrontPage
extensions". Most if not all of their plans had the option of using FP
extensions on Linux or Windows servers. My web host does not support the
FrontPage application and if you have programming problems or need help
using the application you can't call my web host's support line for answers
to your questions. Again I think this is a confusion in wording with the
word "support". JM's web host does support FrontPage server extensions on
all of their Windows servers. I found that information here
http://www.registerfly.com/hosting/windows.php. They also support FrontPage
server extensions on their Linux servers according to this page
http://www.registerfly.com/hosting/plans.php. I would like to read the web
page where JM read the statement that his host does not support FrontPage to
see just how it's worded.

Isn't the technology that we have access to today great!!! I have been
helped so much by people at the different newsgroups who are willing to help
point me in the right direction. Yep. Newsgroups are a wonderful discovery
Steve!! Thanks to all who participate.

Yes.
And the best part is that anyone can participate.
You never know who is going to stop by and show you something
new and different.

We "all" learn from each other, regardless of how expert or not "we perceive" ourselves to be.

I often wonder how many people read this group ( among others )
and don't chip in because they are afraid someone will get "all over" them.

The best ideas and solutions come from people who are new to, or learning a program.

Looks like they have not extended the web with the FP server extensions. But
if they truly don't support their customers use of FrontPage with FrontPage
Extended webs then they need to remove that option from each of their web
packages! Just out of curiosity which package have you purchased ( maybe
give a link to the web page and which one you package picked)?

The way the graphic of your control panel looks the extensions are not
installed and your host would need you to tell them that you want them
installed. To be honest the FrontPage authoring Enabled or Disabled option
seems a bit strange unless when it is Enabled that is suppose to install the
FP extensions but that didn't get completed so the Control Panel shows that
FrontPage is not supported.
