Storing IMAP4 messages locally vs. on server

Hi, I've just set up an IMAP4 e-mail account for sending and receiving
business e-mails using my employer's server (so the e-mails will come to/from
(e-mail address removed). My boss would like me to download those e-mails and
store them on my hard drive on a regular basis so as not to put an increasing
drain on the server resources.

My understanding is that IMAP4 e-mails are stored on the server and a copy
is sent to my local e-mail Inbox.

Could someone please tell me how to download the original e-mails (vs. a
copy) of my messages and remove them from the server, either on a regular
basis or (preferably) automatically?

Thanks very much for your help.

drag them to a local folder and purge the imap folder.
