Stop: c0000135... Winsrv not found error after installing Service Pack 2

I'm using Windows XP Professional, and after installing
Service Pack 2, I get the following error message when I
boot in a blue screen. Before this message pops up, my
hard drive spins down.

Stop: c0000135 {unable to locate component}
This application has failed to start because winsrv was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Has anyone else gotten this problem? Does anyone know why
this has come about and how to fix it?

Dennis,
I have seen that problem come up alot since the release of XP SP2.
Best fix I have seen so far to resolve this is at:

http://www.anetforums.com/posts.aspx?ThreadIndex=29066

The other fix I have tried, and really only works for Windows NT.
So...if your problem is not resolved yet, give that a shot.
Also, with SP2, depending which CPU you are using there is a chance
that you might need to update your bios as well. There is another
link on that forum that goes into details about which CPU’s need the
bios update. And...Microsoft has an article that details known
programs that are not working well with SP2, unfortunratly I do not
remember the article number. Just try a knowledge base search at
www.microsoft.com/technet
