Still can't get past startup after downloading security updates (what a joke)

I've been to various forums and tried everything that has been
suggested but no luck so far. I bought this machine 2nd hand so I
didn't get a disk with it. If I'm going to have to reinstall/repair (more
and more it looks like that's what I'll have to do) I need to get a hold of
a W2K disk. How do I does this without spending an arm and a leg to
solve a problem that was not of my own making unless you want to
count trusting Microsoft enough to download their suggested security
updates. I do appreciate the people who've responded so far and
who've tried to be helpful. I'm looking at my startup screen: going 30
minutes ( what a joke).
