Starting word always in normal mode?

I've set up Word 97 to start up in Normal instead of Page
Outline. This works fine when I open it with a blank
document, however whenever I try to open a .doc that I
downloaded it goes back to Page Outline.

Is there a way to force Word to stay in normal no matter
what?

Normally Word will open a document in the same View that it was last saved
and closed in. To achieve what you want, you will have to create an AutoOpen
macro that switch Word into Normal View on opening any document.

How would I go around doing this? I'm not a programmer and this sounds
intriguing.

I've followed those instructions, and it doesn't affect documents I've
downloaded from the internet. If I make a new document it appears in normal,
as it should.

A third-party document however always appears in Page Layout for me, and that
page doesn't help. You mentioned that a macro could do it, how would I make
one?
