Starting Windows XP Home Edition in Safe Mode

How do I do this? The MS online doc for this is for XP
Professional?, because the menu options are different
(Home Edition says Turn off Computer, not Shut Down). I
tried restarting my computer and hitting F8 as the doc
says should invoke Safe Mode, but it did not. Anyone know
how to do this?

Thanks, Diane

Diane;
The procedure is identical for both Windows XP Home and Pro.
Start
Turn off computer
Click Restart
Immediately start tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.

it works on all Windows versions. you have to hit or hold down the F8 right
after the POST or immediate after the manufacturer's logo disappeared. or
you can just hit F5 to go straight to SafeMode and ditch the menu.

or maybe your msdos.sys has this string BootKeys=0. In that case, you need
to remove it first.
