Start up programs / uninstall programs

I'm having a problem with many, many programs trying to
start up from a cold boot on. They all have icons and
try to load, and lock the CPU to 100%, and then the pc
just hangs a bit until I can go either to each icon and
shut it down, or to get Task Mangar and kill them from
there.
Is there any way to get these little pesks out of the
logging on at the start up, but have an icon on the
desktop, and be available when/if I need them?

Also, I have one program that has numerous small programs
included with it.
There is one program "Easy Calendar.exe" which hangs up
the task manager when powering on from a cold boot, and
it freezes up about 95% on the CPU.
I have uninstalled thise program and "erased" it from a
program that uses "o";s to overwrite, but each time I
power up, it is still there and trying to log on with the
other programs.
So as you can see, I sit and wait about 10 - 15 minutes
trying to wait on the CPU to allow task manager to pen up
and "kill" the program off
Any haelp appreciated.

The best way to prevent a program from starting with Windows is to go
through the program's menus until you find the program's preferences or
options. There you should see an option to start or not start the program
with Windows.

Also: Look in the Startup folder of your Start > All Programs menu and
remove the shortcuts of programs you don't wish to start.

Microsoft also provides a way to prevent programs from starting: the System
Configuration Utility. However, this utility is intended for troubleshooting
and not as a permanent solution.

If a program provides no option to prevent it from starting with Windows,
you have two options:
1. Uninstall the program.
2. Edit the registry to delete the program's reference in the Start keys.
This is a risky thing to do unless you are comfortable working in the
registry. And it may not even work, as the program may reinstall itself into
the registry.
