start up menus and hard drive thinking too hard

J

Jess Jackson

I have got a toshiba laptop which is 18mths old with windows xp.
I am finding it extremely slow when i turn it on as there is a lot of
programs in which startup that i really don't want to startup when it is
turned on.
Also the hard drive is constantly running.
I am about to start studying again and would like to fix the problem before
it causes any more. I am not very computer smart and technical words confuse
me. Is there anybody that would be able to help me with this?
I have been told to turn off automatic start up on the control panel but i
can't seem to find the right part of the control panel.

please help me!
