Start prompt screen now appears

after firing up my PC a black screen appears asking in which mode I want to
start the PC. Before I can finish reading the screen the timer counts down
and launches XP, I am sure it never did this before two days ago. I did edit
MS config to stop Activesurf starting on boot, would making a change to MS
congig now cause XP to ask if I want to launch in safe mode ?

Hi,

Click start/run, or hit the winkey+r, and type C:\boot.ini and click ok.
This should open the file in notepad, please copy/paste the results into a
reply.

1. Click Control Panel | System Properties | Advanced
2. Click Startup and Recovery | Settings button
3. Determine is 'Time to display list of operating systems' is checked and what the timeout is.
4. Check box and set timer, if not set.

NOTE:

To force a delay, you might go to System Properties | Advanced | Startup and
Recovery and change the delay value to 30 seconds, or whatever you want.
However, my understanding is that this setting is ignored unless there are
at least two choices on the menu.

How was Activesurf installed. What did you use in Msconfig to stop it?

Hi Mel,

Is C: the system drive? Boot.ini should be on the root of the active
partition.
