i have just bought a brand new hard drive on which i installed my copy of XP
SP1 after installing i have no problems connecting to the internet through my
cable internet connection, aswell as having no problems browsing the web. but
after downloading and installing XP SP2 i can no longer browse the web,
although i think there is some connection still there, i also uninstalled sp2
just to check this was the problem and am back to having no problems with my
internet at all.

i have tried disabling windows firewall, and changing the settings, i have
tried changing the internet security settings, deleting cookies, history etc,
i have also tried releasing the ip in ipconfig if anyone could help asap
that would be great

Did you check for / install an SP2 compatible driver for the NIC?

Otherwise provide more information on the hardware, configuration and how
you are connecting to the internet.

But have you tried updating your drivers for your NIC?
