Sound problems - vocals muffled/faint

Suddenly when I listen using my headphones to downloaded MP3's, the music is
loud and fine as usual but the vocals are so faint and can barely be heard -
except on those tracks where the chorus can be heard loudly but the lead has
disappeared. And some tracks sound distorted. Never had this problem
before... any ideas? BTW - I tried to listen online to some tracks on Amazon
to see if same happened - it didn't - although it was much more quieter than
usual even with the volume levels pushed up to the max...
Help!

Are your speakers using a stereo headphone jack? If yes, the test by
connecting the speakers to a radio/mp3 player so as to eliminate the
speakers as the problem.

How do you connect the speakers and headphones to the PC?

Hi - I use headphones and they work fine when I listen to a CD on the PC -
it's only my MP3 files that I'm having problems with - in fact, anything that
has singing on it - I can hear the instruments and sometimes the chorus
vocals, but the lead singer's voice is so faint it's almost disappeared -
which would be great if I wanted to listen to karaoke <grin>

I had my powerboard (?) replaced this week - might they have done something
accidentally that affected the voice/sound set up?
