Sony Vaio Missing Drivers

If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated. I have just recently
bought myself a Sony Vaio PCG-Z600NE notebook, which was running Windows 98,
the discs that came with it are Windows98 standard with all the software and
drivers for all the extras on the notebook. However! I have also just
recently bought myself XP Home Edition to upgrade my notebook. I performed a
full install, formatting the harddrive before hand. Very successful install,
the problem is that XP won't install the original driver for the PCGA-CD51/A
external cdrom drive. O f course I understand that it won't be the same for
XP as it is for 98, so I have looked online and found a variety of driver
sites and even Sony's own support site giving me all these downloads to run
their specific drivers for use within XP. The problem is that XP doesn't see
that the drivers I am trying update are the original drivers for the cdrom.

It doesn't even have a selection for me to choose from in the device
manager. Please help. I know I am not that brilliant with PC's but I didn't
think it would be this hard to download a driver for XP!

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

John

Go to Start/My Computer/rightclick your external CD-Rom drive if it listed,
and should be if it is connected. Click Properties/hardware tab/properties
button/driver tab. There you have choice to rollback, uninstall or reinstall
and select the location where the new driver can be found. :~)

hi Byte
I did as you suggested but XP still doesn't recognise the driver I have
selected, is there a complication with the driver that XP doesn't see it as a
better driver? This is driving me nuts! Thanks for the help though!
