Sony have announced that they are to cut the price of the PS3 by £125, at the sacrifice of a smaller hard drive (40GB instead of 60GB) and no backwards compatibility. This entry level PS3 is now at the same price of the Elite XBox 360 package.

"Sony has also slashed the price of the 60GB model from £425 to £349, as it hopes to ignite sales. Ray Maguire, head of PlayStation UK, said he expected the PS3 user base to double by Christmas. Mr Maguire said the release of the 40GB PS3 was a "strategic decision" and not the result of lower-than-expected sales of the PlayStation 3.

We have done market research, looked at fans' forums and the feedback from consumers is that they are anxious to get into PlayStation 3 but it is too expensive, he told BBC News.

Sony was the market leader in the previous two generations of console releases. However, Nintendo is now in pole position closely followed by Microsoft's Xbox 360. "

Bovine manure :D

People are boycotting Sony and ther console is overpriced, as are the PS3 games.

That's just a sales ploy to try and take advantage for game sales for Christmas time.

They weren't being so nice to UK peeps when it was released in the USA and Japan quite some time before it was released here, that's how much Sony 'we are rootkit' think of us.

They can, well, this be a family forum so use your imagination :D
