sony camera USB driver wont install

I have a Sony Cybershot camera. I have XP pro with Service pack 1 installed.
The camera will show itself in the control panel but not work. So I called
Sony , and they ran me through some steps. I had to turn the camera on to
see it in the Control panel and then update the driver. Well it did it and
then ended with "Problem Installing Software", "Data is Invalid". End
result. The person told me this common, it has to be fixed in the registry.
Then she asks. Is your computer sony. I say no. Then she asks who is the
manufacturer. I say I built it.
Response , well I can help you . I ask well doesnt the Sony computer have
XP on it too. She says yes but and cant be responsible for messing your
system up. I said well, I wont hold you responsible , just tell me what I
have to change.

All she would tell me is that it is a Rights Issue and I must go to the
Microsoft website and find out what to change.
Well Im still looking.

Any help would be appreciated.

KB61Mike - Did you solve your problem? My Cybershot was working fine with XP
Pro sp1 for over a year. A month ago when I hooked up the USB cable and
turned on the camera, I got an "unknown device" message. I thought I'd
re-install the driver, but I couldn't find the camera listed anywhere in
Control Panel. I tried reinstalling the USB port devices and re-booting but
nothing helped. About a week later, I tried again and the camera was
recognized the first time I turned it on. Never found out what went wrong.
Now the same thing is happening and I still can't find the camera driver to
un-install it.

If you've got any help with your problem can you please point me in the
right direction?

Thanks,
Karen
