I'm having the same problem on my new laptop (Dell).
I can't find anything in the Help section about "Sonic"
or in the User Manual. When I start up I get a msg
that it's wanting to update and looking for a file "UM.USI"
I have searched both CD's that came with the laptop and
the hard drive. Can't find anything. So I just do an
End Task and go on. Help would be appreciated.

Have you brought this to the attention of Sonic technical suuport?

Have same problem with 4-month-old Dell Dimension E510. Problem started on
03/26/2006. System did not come with CD requested by the error msg.

Thanks for the lead - it worked for me too.

Also, any idea how I go about reloading Sonic DVD and CD Burning, part of
the Windows XP package. I removed it by accident when trying to fix the
'sonic update manager' problem and now can't seem to reinstall it without a
CD ... any ideas or pointers??

Thank you
Elizabeth

Sonic has a website that may help. Dell product support is another option.
Be sure to let them know what caused you to delete the program and they may
feel guilty enough to send you a copy.

Otherwise, Roxio has a CD burner program (free version) that I have used.
There may be hardware compatability issues so it helps to know the specs of
your CD/DVD drive.
