i found that deleting away the Application Data in,
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC
and then re-run defrag does help.

If the file [dfrg.msc] is not in the system32 directory then put your Win XP
Installation cd into the drive and type:

expand x:\i386\dfrg.ms_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc

....replace [x:] with your current cd-rom drive letter. This will give you a
'clean' copy of the Defrag Console Add-In.
