Hi;
Beware the Licencing Terms and Agrement.
Read and comprehend them ALL.
There are pages of the stuff.

You'll be giving away almost all of your OWN machine with most of those
Screensavers Sites.
They collect everything they can about you and your 'Net habits and reserve
the rights to change their already "harsh" terms at anytime without any
warnings...and it's never been for the better.

The conditions are incredible with many other softs installed thru the
back-door(s).
You never know what you're getting into.

Mikey,
Just curious, but can you provide a link to a page that shows that
the site has such licensing terms and also installs spyware on your
system? I looked but could find no such information. And since the
screensavers are packaged in executables, I don't want to run the risk
of having spyware installed.

Hi John C;

With MOST of the aggressively promoted freeware screensaver sites that I
visited of late and that offer such appealing and "jazzy" downloads, the
terms are NOT laid out at all anywhere to be found or else hidden very deep
after a lot of blubber and glitzy pages.

You only find all about the conditions and terms once you are very involved
and at the very end of the install routine.

There's even on some, free and empty jumps on the pageS of the licences so
that you're made to believe you reached the end.

Takes about 5 minutes just to read, 30 to comprehend.
Everything is laid out so "smooth" and gradual to lull you to sleep.

Following a "lead" from a very highly regarded and rated Newsletter, I
downloaded over 240MBs of the stuff 3 days ago from TWO sites that proffered
the VERY SAME LISTING ********
*************
of: Valentine, Easter, Dogs, Cats, Cars, Mountains, Lakes, Exotic Views, etc
and ALL and EVERYONE of the *.EXEs I tried were the very same.

They are not spending days and months on the programming just to give away
their efforts to any passer-by.
They are commercial outfits with a very dark angle and I described it
accurately.
I'll stand fast by my words anytime and this even in the Courts.
The layout of that last site may have varied a wee-bit but 95% of the
offerings and names were the very same.
I downloaded 1 and gor the very same thing.
Put a screeching stop to my stay there.

They were all spywares and all back-door installers on the 2 previous sites.

I'm not basing my conclusions on one *.exe that slipped by inadvertance in
the lot.

Previously, I went ahead till the very last screen and click were I could
still manage to halt the b*ggers in SEVEN (7) occasions.

ALL THE SAME.

No reason to expects they modified anything within the last 3 days.

AND I FORMALLY SIGNED THIS DECLARATION ON THE 27th Day of December of the

[quoted from: http://www.altixsoft.com/download.htm]
Free Trial. You can download and try all of our screensavers for free. The
trial versions can be two types:

1. Screensaver shows only 10-15 images and unlimited time of use, OR
2. Screensaver fully functional, but only works for 7 days from moment of
installation.

After that period, if you have enjoyed using the screensaver and wish to
keep it, you can purchase it online or by other ways. Click on 'Purchase' to
the left to learn more.

This is a FREEWARE newsgroup, NOT a shareware/trialware one......!!!!!

Yeah, it kind of sounds like an "associate" program or the like. I
agree, it's not worth the risk. And I don't understand why ANY screen
saver has to be distributed as an executable installation package.

M

Mikey

Primarily TO: John C. (again);
...and they are ALL executable at about 3 to 4 times the size or "safe" ones.

They mention:
add-onS,
associated sub-routines,
third party programs and inclusion(s) by our sponsors AND THEIR associates,
Automated UPDATING...of but NOT only of the CURRENT content...with
ADDED...,
Rights to collect any info NOW and THEN we AND others including but not
limited to... will see or feel appropriate for purposes pursuant OR Not to
the Safe and Continuous operation(s)... and additional...

It's all there but so SMOOOTHLY introduced.
Mikey

They'd win their case in litigation.
