Slow printing to network printer from one PC

Here's a problem that has perplexed me for a few weeks.

I have four PC's and an HP 3500n LaserJet printer connected to a peer
network through a wired router. The PC's all run Win2K SP4, and have P3
processors running around 600 to 700 mHz. All have at least 256 MB RAM,
virtual storage allocations of at least 0.5 GB, at least 10 GB free
hard drive space, and are routinely defragmented.

One of the PC's seems to send much smaller amounts of data to the
printer than the others. Printing the same document from two PC's,
whether the source is a MS Word document or PDF file, the printer seems
to start and stop much more frequently when one of the PC's is printing
the file. The printer only produces one or two pages when printing from
the problem PC, but puts out several pages in one burst before pausing
    when printing from the others.

I've looked on the Microsoft and HP web sites and many other places,
and thought I would ask here if there is anything that can be done to
improve the printing performance from this PC.

    Thanks in advance!
