Slide Transitions: Advance Slide Automatically after .. sec

For slide transitions, how exactly is the "Advance Slide Automatically after
nnn sec" used? Is that the delay time after the last item is laid out in the
slide (or after the last audio clip on the slide is played) ?
That time is definitely not the time from the start of the slide display
layout.

ok I think I understand this. If that "Advance slide auto. after ..nn sec "
is LESS than the time taken to lay out the slide (say with animated text or
an added sound clip) then it is not used. If that nn sec is LONGER than the
layout time, the time is the total time from start of slide layout. Is this
correct?

Yes -you and sandy are correct but its often a little hit or miss!

If you want to pause for a set time after all animations are finished to
avoid trial and error you can use a method that Tohlz once described.

Put a further animation off screen (so invisible in presentation) eg a
rectangle set to fade in. Set the animation to after previous and timing to 5
seconds or whatever. Set slide transition to 0 seconds. Your presentation
will now wait for the fade to complete (5 secs ) and then advance. You can
use copy / paste to add this to several slides

Thanks John and tohlz,
I'm discovering that there are some "requires significant testing and
compensation" timing difference subtleties between PPT 2003 and PPT 2000.
Slide transitions and component timings designed in PPT 2003 sometimes
behave differently when run via PPT 2000.
Technique below sounds nicely workable.
