I just installed a new slave hard drive. both are jumpered for cable select.
They show up in the bios and in the device manager but not in windows
explorer. when I go to "my computer" it shows my main drive and my external
drive but not my new slave drive.....??????

Sounds strange but unplug your external drive and press F5 to refresh
"My Computer" and see if it pops up. I have had this issue recently and
the external drive was being assigned the same drive letter as the
slave.

One cause could be because you have not configured any partition on your new
slave drive. To check this:

1. Right-click on My Computer - choose Manage.
2. Expand to: Disk Management.
3. Check the Drive listed and see if any partition is configured or not. If
not, then create a new partitions by right-clicking on unpartition space.

See the article below on Disk Management, creating basic partitions:

Hope this information helps you, let us know!
