Skype for Windows 98SE

Regis

I'd like to try this out, but I can't find any versions compatible
with Win 98SE. I loathe XP, and will have to do without unless anyone
has any pointers to olders versions which I assume would work with my
OS. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can run it on Linux. Install something like Xandros and have
dual-boot, or use a "live CD". I assume some live distros include
Skype?

Bit the bullet and installed Skype for Windows 1.1.0.79 on my Win 98SE
machine. No crashes... yet.

So Skype's pushing Win XP? Bummer.

Thx Lh

Out of curiousity, why did you choose to go with an older version of
Skype, rather than the latest version 1.3.0.66?

Everything I read on the Skype site about the latest version kept
going on about it only working on Win XP. I have run up against other
programs that not only will not work with Win 98SE, but tend to mess
it up as well. I took a chance that an older version "might" be a
little more friendly. Lucky guess on my part. And likely the new
version won't have anything but cosmetic "improvements" anyway. I
would be interested if anyone has tried it, however. On Win 98SE, I
mean.

Ah. I'm interested in using Skype with 98SE, as well. I'm glad you have
it working, but it seems to me that there have been a lot of changes
since 1.1.0.79 that are more than just "cosmetic" (see
http://www.skype.com/products/skype/windows/changelog.html )

And where did you find 1.1.0.79, anyway? I can't find old versions on
the Skype site and it's not at oldversion.com, either.

I just checked, and it's 1.1.0.61, so that's even older. I have no
idea where I downloaded it from, but I got is in Feb. of this year. I
know I had a devil of a time finding an older version. Anyway, if you
want it, and your mailbox can handle it, I'll send it to you. It's
about 5.5 Mbs.

Send me your email at (e-mail address removed), and please put Skype in the
Subject. I get an awful lot of spam at that address, and tend to just
delete without checking too closely.

oldversion.com has some older versions of Skype:
Skype 0.90 Beta (2.6 MB)
Skype 0.92 Beta (2.7 MB)
Skype 0.97 Beta (7.2 MB)
Skype 1.0 (10.4 MB)
