Sims Superstar Installation Problem

Hi
I am at the end of my tether with installing the Sims
Superstar. I have little help from the EA site, & now
I'm here hoping for some experts to assist me. So,
here's my problem.

I install each sims game in order, The Sims, Livin Large,
House Party, Hot Date, Vacation. Then the problems start
when I'm trying to install Superstar. I know the cd's
work fine because I tested them on my daughters
computer....which seems to have offended the powers that
be in EA saying I was not entitled to any assistance
because I had allegedly installed the game on more than
one puter......which is a load of rubbish cos I can't get
it to install in mine at all. The error message I got was:

D:\setup\data3.cab
DATA ERROR
( CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK )

The Superstar cd also works on my puter, I installed the
original Sims game & then just Superstar to see if it
actually did work, yep, works fine & plays too. So I
installed the other expansion packs & what do ya know, I
get this error message:

Component: ExpansionPack2
File Group: ExpansionPack 2
File: D:\setup\data3.cab
Error: Incorrect Function


I have also used the Sim Eraser to clean the registry &
have made sure that the Maxis file is deleted. I've also
emptied the recycle bin before I start, disc defragged,
run my spyware detector, disabled my anti virus & shut
down as many startup applications as I can find.

I just had my computer upgraded, & have plenty of RAM so
I don't think that space is a problem.

So, as you can see I am ready to pull my hair out. Can
anyone out there help me to solve this problem before I
truly go insane? Sorry the post is so long, but I felt I
needed to explain my situation. Looking forward to some
sane replies, thanx.

You're going to hate my "solution." The same thing happened to me when
installing SS on my laptop, so I networked it to my PC and copied the whole
Sims directory to the laptop. I have no idea why it happened because SS
installed fine on the PC. When I tried to run it from the laptop, it said
it had to reinstall SS, so I did, it installed fine, and now it runs fine.
Matter of fact, I played til after midnight last night.

Is there any way you could get those files from one PC to the other?

I could do this, I have my puter networked with my
hubbys, but I'll try your solution when all other options
have failed. Thanx for your reply, another bit of food
for thought. Much appreciated.

I did hate your solution, but after another pretty much
full on 24 hours of trying without success, I decided to
do it your way & guess what, its in & working! If you
were sitting next to me I'd be forced to give you a huge
hug! ) Anyway, thanx for that fantastic advice, I
very much appreciate it. And have a Happy & Safe New
