shutdown and restart suddenly

F

FreakMeUp

I installed WIN 2000 (professional) on my computer. I had
a problem from yesterday. My computer suddenly shutdown or
reboot without any warning. It even boots itself after I
shut it down by pushng the power button. I never had this
problem before.

The system has no problem if I don't log in after the
lonin window appears. But it will shut down and then
reboot suddenly after the blue screen appears without any
warning. The shutting down time is different each time.
Sometimes, it shuts down when the desktop icons appeared,
at other times, it may shut down after the blue screen
appears. What is possibly the problem and how to solve it?
Please help. Thanks!

First, Update your BIOS. What kind of mobo/system are you on?

What information is on the blue screen? Can you go into Startup Recovery
options and make sure automatically reboot is turned off?

Thank you for your reply.
The MB is ALH 400 from XFX (cpu: Pentium 4), but I didn't
update the BIOS since I built this machine (three months).
I turned off the automatically reboot option in Startup
Recovery. There is not any message when it shuts down
after the blue screen appears. But, sometimes, it shuts
down after everything has gone well for several minutes,
in that case, a message 'windows is shutting down.....'
flashes for one or two seconds. But I had this case only
once.

I just asked my colleague and he told me it also might be
a Blaster virus, because he once had the similar problem
when he detected Blaster virus.

I will try all the methods I collected by now tonight and
I will post the result here again.

What kind of Blue Screen are you talking about? A bugcheck with error codes
written? Or a blank blue screen? Or the blue screen of the background of
your Windows desktop?

I mean the blue screen of the background of the Windows
desktop (before the desktop icons appear).

In the last two days, my computer became more crazy. It
even can't go as far as the blue screen appears. I can't
use the front panel button to start the computer. The only
way to start it to use the power control on the back of
the case, even in this case, it only starts for several
seconds, then shuts down and then restarts and then down
again. It repeats for two or three times and then I can
never start it using either button. But If I turn the
power off for more than ten minutes, I can start it using
the power button on the back and it repeats the same
problem as before. I tested the front panel power button
and it's ok. I tried all knowledge but just got no clue at
all. I think it may be the BOIS is corrupted, but how can
I update it if it can't even start. If it possible any
virus corrupted the BIOS?

My computer made me almost as crazy as itself. Any idea
will be appreciated.
