"Shared Pictures" folder shows up as "My Pictures"

B

Bruce Forstall

When I navigate to the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Documents" I see "Shared Music" and "Shared Video", with their special
icons, but instead of "Shared Pictures", I actually see "My Pictures". And
it doesn't have its special icon. In addition, if I have the Explorer open
to "My Pictures" (that is, C:\Documents and Settings\Bruce\My Documents\My
Pictures), then the "task pane" on the left shows "My Pictures" in the
"Other Places" section instead of "Shared Pictures". Hovering the mouse over
that shows "Size: 9.05 GB XX Folders: ..." where the XX are two boxes
(unprintable characters? signifying something corrupt?), and the icon is a
basic folder, not the special folder.

I recently reinstalled this machine with Windows XP Professional, then
downloaded every Windows Update patch (including SP1).

I verified that "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My
Pictures\Desktop.ini" exists, is attrib'ed +S +H, and has what some web
sites have said is the correct content, namely:

[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12688
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\mydocs.dll
IconIndex=-101
[email protected],-28997

I installed TweakUI and used its Repair->Rebuild Icons functionality. That
didn't fix it.

This seems pretty minor but it sure is annoying for it to be broken...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bruce

Unfortunately, I already tried that and that doesn't appear to be the
problem. The deskop.ini file is there, appears correct, and I've rebooted
after making sure it was correct. Still, Explorer doesn't show it as "Shared
Pictures"... :-(

Bruce;
You can try what I did. My Pictures and My Music folders were messed up. I
spent a better part of a day trying to repair them. No have way. I created a
new My Pictures and
My Music on the Desktop and deleted the old ones after copying and pasting the
contents over to the new folders. I then moved them to My Documents. I
customized the folders with the original icons. Worth a shot. It's got to do
with the localized name.

Bruce;
I just sent my other post and went upstairs to get a cup of coffee. While I
was pouring the light bulb came on. Try this: Start/Run/regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\My
Computer\NameSpace\ DelegateFolders

If this key does not exist you may have to create
it.{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}. The Shared Documents folders (which
are normally under the group called "Other Files Stored on This Computer")
===
I also found this, you might try this first (Is the "Shared Documents" folder
set for Sharing?):
Shared Documents Folders Are Missing From My Computer
