Shared files and printers not accessible

B

Bill Lampman

Hi,

I have 2 machines running XP Home. One desktop with a static IP, one
laptop DHCP enabled. When first started both computers can see each other
and the laptop can print to the desktop's shared printer. After a few hours
of
uptime the laptop can no longer print or see the shared files on the
desktop.
The desktop can still see the laptop. Internet connectivity is always
available
on both PCs.

Any ideas ?

Bill

Bill,

Browser conflicts, like this, are generally caused by a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Hi im getting this same problem. Ive got one PC running xp home and a
laptop running Xp pro. It happened before when running both with pro as
well. Both running wireless and dhcp on the router. I tried with fixed
IP and got the same problem. Basically i can connect and file and
printer share when i first bootup. Then randomly i cant access one from
the other. I can still connect to the net on both of them just not each
other. I go
repair connection on both and its all fine again.

Modem IP is 10.1.1.1
Router IP is 198.162.1.1
DHCP settings
start at 198.162.1.100
2 connections- so the only possibilitys are 1.100 and 1.101

My PC is named office and laptop...Laptop :) here is the output from

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I would prefer to have static IP
for PC-torrents.
