Several problems after installing SP2

1. Just as several people mentioned, the startup is A LOT
slower (20-30 seconds in fact), why?

2. When I see the Windows splash screen during startup,
instead of displaying "Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
and with "Microsoft Corporation 1995-2001", it just
displays "Microsoft Windows XP" and "Microsoft
Corporation", is there anyway to fix this or is this
normal?

Please answer me ASAP, thanks.

Hi

1. Have you installed any programs recently that may be loading via
msconfig/startup?

2. The new screen you are seeing is normal for SP2.

Must admit that threw me for a second when I first saw it. I now assume that
it's normal.

Seems odd that they took out the word "Professional".

Many people have complained about the slower boot up after SP2, and I also
noticed it is slower on all of my systems installed SP2, but I don't worry
at all.

The thing is before SP2, two of my notebooks usually won't load every icons
to the taskbar after logging into the system.

And even if the logon screen appears faster, the system will not complete
the full loading processes after log onto the system for a while.

Common missing icons are power, mouse, and others. Those drivers are loaded
but icons were not there.

After SP2, 99/9% of time, every icon will be displayed on the taskbar.

So I think the slower startup is normal, considering it is doing the job
more correctly.

ANY new MS OS loads slower with the same hardware. This is normal.

That is normal - there are now several variants (Media Center, Tablet)
and they are not differentiating any more.

The speed point is because the files are now scattered into new places
on disk, so the old PreFetch optimisation is no longer valid. So the
PreFetch folder has to be rebuilt. Defrag, then let PreFetch rebuild
over several days (and encourage it to get info on the boot pattern by
booting at least once a day for that time). The optimisation will come
in and things speed up again
