Services.exe grabbing Memory!!!

I desperately need some help here. The process
Services.exe is grabbing 90+% of the CPU and not allowing
Windows to load or run properly.

When I came in to work this morning I noticed that Windows
had not properly logged me off. It was stuck at an "End
Task". I clicked to end it and Win2000 proceeded to shut
down. It got locked in the middle and after a while I did
a cold boot.

When Windows tried to load, it took FOREVER!!! I ran Task
Manager and noticed that services.exe was using 90 to 100%
of the cpu causing all other programs and processes to
load slowly, if at all.

I need my computer! Can anyone help? I'm forced to use one
of the spare computers here but... I've currently got mine
in SAFE MODE and am running Norton's Antivirus to see if a
virus caused this. But because of services.exe grabbing
and holding the CPU, even in safe mode, it's taking
forever.

HELP!!!

Go to www.sysinternals.com and get tool named Process Explorer. It shows
more details about services among other things. So with it you can see which
service is eating your memory and using CPU.

Thanks, Nico, but I know what process was eating memory.
It was services.exe which was grabbing and holding on to
90% of the CPU! We did a Windows 2000 repair over the
weekend and it seemed to solve the problem. I just wish I
knew what caused it in the first place.
