Server Access Only by \\IP and not \\Hostname over remote connecti

XP (both SP1 and SP2)Clients have no problem access server shares from LAN.

When connecting over VPN, either an IPSec solution or SSL (two different
vendor products) clients can only connect to one specfic server share by \\IP
and not \\Hostname. Name resolution functional, both DNS and WINS. When using
\\Hostname the clients sends zero network traffic, no lookup, nothing, they
just show a browse window with no shares listed and no error.

Anybody else seen an increase in this type of behaviour recently, possibly
related to Windows updates? Also investigating same type of scenario possibly
impacting Outlook access.

By default, this is the way most VPNs work. Now, you will need to activate
'Use Netbios over IP" in order to get the system names to work.
