Selection of an email header triggering email download, why ?

After downloading emails in my inbox using the "Download Headers in this
folder" if I single click a header(left mouse click) then outlook will
automatically start downloading the email and if it is a large email then
the whole outlook will hang until the download is complete..

Is there anyway to disable this automatic download as I want to select email
header by a single click and then decide whether it should be downloaded or
deleted

This behavior was not present in the past and I am trying to understand why
outlook default behavior has changed.

Any advice are welcome.

Are you running over a very slow network connection? If not, why are you
not using Outlook's default behavior for Cached Exchange mode?

I am something running over very slow connections, sometime over a fast
connection.

Not sure what the default behavior is for Cached Exchange mode ?, as far as
I know there are 3 options which are a) download full item, b) download
headers and full items and "c) download headers.

For me I set it to "download header" which allows me to download the headers
and depending on the size of an email decide or not to flag it for download,
unfortunately since a few weeks if I select a header (left single click)
then Outlook automatically starts to downkoad the email and if it is large
then outlook hangs until the email is fully downloaded.

The default appears to be to not have any individual folders checked and the
downloading choices grayed out. Then the downloading happens in the
background, or so I've been told.

This is what used to happen in the past, but this is not the case anymore.

Hi Brian,

I suspect you mean uncheck all folders in outlook Send/Receive Setting for
Exchange account. I have unchecked all folders, I unchecked as well the Send
Mail items & receive Mail Items then I exited from outlook and restarted it
..

I still have the same exact issue, which is as soon as I select an email
header by a left single click then outlook will immediatly start to download
it and will hang till the whole email is fully downloaded.

Thank You,
Jean

Yes, in the Send/Receive group.

Unchecking folders should remove the ability to select whether or not to
download messages and giove you direct access to the mailbox. I'm afraid I
can't help.
