See hp JetDirect ethernet printer on network?

I have an ethernet printer on a small LAN.

Windows ME sees the printer on the network in My Network Places.

Windows XP Home can use the printer just fine.
However, it doesn't display the printer on the network at all.

Is there a way for it to show up on My Network Places?

Thanks,

Fred

No, jet direct devices do not appear in the browse list.
It's just a simple TCP/IP device, and not every device
with an IP address will appear in Network Neighbourhood.

Only Windows computers ( or other machines that make
browser announcements ) appear there.

HP's JetAdmin software used to ( and may still do ) add an
extension to Explorer, which would make JetDirect devices appear here.

This is not a very useful feature.

In XP, just use the built-in TCP/IP printing feature, which
will connect to the printserver on port 9100.

Don't expect it to appear in network places, it doesn't belong there.
