security config and analysis needed for most software to run???

Hi all,

We are having numerous issues with most of our apps on XP--old and new. We
end up having to give local admin or power user which we definitely dont
want to do. If you call tech support for these apps, they are usually not up
to speed with XP's more restrictive permissions. "um yes...the user has to
be a local admin."

Ive usually gotten around this by hacking permissions on certain reg keys

Ive run compatws.inf yada yada and i still run into problems and have to
hack the registry apart to get most apps to work.

Just wondering what other admins are doing out there, as this is getting
frustrating..

thanks!

I complain to the company that originated the software,
reminding them of key factor is future purchase decisions.

Then, I grin and bare it, and as you have, slog the way through
what that next app expects to be able to do.
Regretably, there are just too many different apps doing too
many different things so that I doubt there is a one-shot-fixes-all
that anyone could come up with (or else MS would have).
