search companion doesn't 'connect'

Just recently, when I click on the search button in IE6, the search
companion doesn't connect. It has always worked before. I have been having
a problem with pop-up ads when I start IE so I used Ad-aware 6 to quarantine
some suspiscious files. When the problem started I un-quarantined them but
nothing has changed. I don't believe anything was deleted. Is there
anything I should look for? Thanks in advance.

Here's a regfile that will restore the Windows defaults for practically everything Search-related.

Save to disk, close all browser windows, double click the file and answer 'yes' when asked to
merge.
Restart your computer.
