SCT Error Recovery Control onj Seagate?

Grant

Hi,

Running a RAID6 array, noticed the drives were set to minimum timeout
for error recovery. I suspect this is being done by the newly installed
IBM ServeRAID BR10i or LSI SAS3082E-R RAID controller card.

System is Slackware64-14.1 with 3.16.1 kernel.

# smartctl -l scterc /dev/sdf
smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [x86_64-linux-3.16.1a] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-12 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

SCT Error Recovery Control:
Read: 1 (0.1 seconds)
Write: 1 (0.1 seconds)

Also, I checked a drive similar to one of those installed in the array
and got:

# smartctl -l scterc /dev/sdh
smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [x86_64-linux-3.16.1a] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-12 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

SCT Error Recovery Control:
Read: Disabled
Write: Disabled

# smartctl -l scterc,70,70 /dev/sdh
smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [x86_64-linux-3.16.1a] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-12 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

SCT Error Recovery Control set to:
Read: 70 (7.0 seconds)
Write: 70 (7.0 seconds)

# smartctl -l scterc /dev/sdh
smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [x86_64-linux-3.16.1a] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-12 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

SCT Error Recovery Control:
Read: 70 (7.0 seconds)
Write: 70 (7.0 seconds)

If I cycle power, the stored value returns to disabled.

These drives are around four years old, they're Seagate.

Now Seagate modern documentation says the error control is no longer
available on desktop drives, but I have no new desktop drives to test
this on.

Is somebody out there running Linux and can check these commands on
a recent Seagate drive? Also other brands, they should respond to the
command as well.

Thanks,
Grant.
