what sort of maintenance do you do?

go to 'internet options' in the control panel and select 'delete cookies',
delete temp internet files ( do it twice, once with the box ticked to delete
offline content)

open 'my computer' and right click your hard drive. select properties and do
a 'disk clean up' (under the more options tab you can also choose to delete
all but the last restore point).

visit this link to check your browser for parasites......

use 'adaware' to remove suspect files from your computer that you may have
collected over the internet.

click start>run and type 'msconfig'. under the 'start up' tab, uncheck all
those programs that are loading at start up (leave your firewall and anti
virus which you DO need at start up.

click start>run and type cmd. then type 'chkdsk /f' and follow the commands.

now and again run chkdsk /r (it takes longer) .

click start>run and type 'sfc /scannow'. insert your windows xp cd when
prompted.

once you've done all this, defrag your hard drive (start>all
programs>accessories>system tools)
