SCANPST- in a "DOS" batch file`

I

I live on Outlook

My system is OL 2003 on a Dell Latitute D600 running Win XP SP1.

I would like to make a DOS-like batch file to run at system startup
and shutdown. However, if I type "scanpst /?" in a command window,
it brings up the regular scanpst window. The MS KB doesn't provide
any information on scanpst options.

I have the typical "Outlook won't close after exiting the application"
problem, and I scan my 2 PST files frequently for errors. I usually
find errors and always select the Backup and Repair options.

So, each line in my batch file has to name the target PST file as well
as set the options for scan and make a backup.

thanks,

As far as I know, scanpst.exe is an interactive tool and doesn't have any
command line switches.

Thanks. I suspected that was the case, but I was hoping someone in
this group more experienced than me would have a better answer.
(Actually this group has this great bunch of MVPs, as I've commented
previously.)

On a related question, if someone converts to t he OL 2003 PST format,
can scanpst still work?

Yes, Outlook 2003 comes with a version of scanpst.exe that can handle the
legacy and new pst formats. Previous versions don't know what to do with
the new 'unicode' PST format.
