saving an already 'saved-as' jpg image

Having browsed the prior posts on the subject I'm wondering if this would be
considered splitting hairs: If a previously saved .jpg is reopened and then
rotated
(I'm aware that PaintShop Pro 8 has a lossless rotation feature), re-named
or resized...would there be any noticeable degradation in the file or image?

I don't think you would see any visible degradation unless
you have a very low resolution image. Why not make a copy
of the image and test it by resaving it several rimes under
different names (test 1.jpg, test 2.jpg, etc.) and compare the
results. Maybe even print the first and last and compare them.

FWIW...I never edit my original image files. All editing is done
on copies...it's good insurance.

As always, thanks John for the insight from your experiences.

Having just realized that my Fuji3800 can only save in .jpg, I've just
switched the output resolution to the full 3Mb, and agree that if an image
is kept at that size there shouldn't be any obvious degradation, and will
experiment with your rename suggestions.

One further question: would the file format change be immediate on d/loading
pics to my computer if I batch re-named them all to, say .tiff, .PSP or
..PSD?

I can assure you that rotating a 3mb image
will not cause visible degradation. However...
I still save my originals unedited.

This would depend on how you download the
files. BTW...renaming alone does not change
the format...the images must be *saved as*...
..tif, .psd, etc.

Ah, yes. I forgot the obvious: a rotation or re-name
wouldn't have much if any effect on an image's pixel properties.
I usually open/view my pics in the more (for this user, anyway) Explorer
(haven't gotten all that
comfortable with the Fuji app yet...). To me it's more versatile
and user-friendly
