Hi, couple of queries.....

1. Since activating messenger on my (new) pc, the user log-in screen shows my hotmail address with the number of new mails every time the pc starts up. How do I switch off this function so that it never happens?

2. When I click the sign-in button for messenger, the e-mail address input box has a drop-list with all previously entered mail addresses lsited. I know how to clear this list at the end of a session, but is there a way to stop the addresses entered being saved in the first place?

Many thanks,
Ian.

Greetings Ian,

1. To remove this, download the TweakUI powertoy:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (see on the right).

After you have TweakUI installed, click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, and
choose TweakUI for Windows XP. In the TweakUI window, on the left, click the '+' next to
Logon, and choose Unread Mail. Uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen' and click OK.

2. Yes there is, simply download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/disablenetcreds.reg
You'll need to reboot to see the change.

Many thanks mate, but why is so convoluted to get it to stop doing this sort of stuff?? Does it never occur to MS that we might not ALL want to ALWAYS do absolutely EVERYTHING that the software can do???
