SATA DVD installation problems

I have a new SATA DVD Writer made by plextor. I am trying to connect it to an Abit IC7 Max motherboard. I have a RAID 1 Array on SATA1 + SATA2. SATA 3 has another harddrive on it. I have tried connecting the DVD drive to SATA 4, but this causes the system not to boot properly. I have read that it maybe better supported by connecting it to either SATA1 or SATA2 since they form the On Chip SATA, which the latest bios from Abit was meant to sort out. However this would mean moving my two harddrives which form the raid 1 array.
2 Questions.
1) Is there any method or bios setting that will allow me to use the other SATA ports (ie 3-6) that are on the extra SATA controller?
2) If I was to move the RAID array to the other controller, which will do RAID 1 too, then will it cause me some grief in terms of wiping drives etc.
Thanks in advance
